Visa information

Persons wishing to enter Slovenia must have a relevant travel document. On the basis of a bilateral agreement, Croatian citizens may also enter Slovenia with an identity card.

An alien wishing to enter the Republic of Slovenia needs a valid passport and a visa or residence permit , unless otherwise stipulated by law or international agreement. Any alien who in accordance with the law does not need a permit to enter the country may stay in the Republic of Slovenia for not more than 90 days in a period of six months. Find out if you need a visa in order to enter the Republic of Slovenia on the following webpage http://www.mzz.gov.si/en/embassies_diplomatic_missions_and_consulates_general/#c1153 .

Visa types

Airport transit visa

This visa enables those aliens who are required to have it to stay in the international transit area of an airport while awaiting their connecting flight, but does not permit entry into the country. The airport transit visa requirement is an exception to the general transit privileges that permit an alien to stay in the international area without a visa.

Note: Keep in mind and pay special attention to your travel plans. If your travel plans include a connecting flight which takes place in a country you require a visa you should take the necessary arrangements to get an airports transit visa.

This visa entitles an alien traveling from one country to another to transit through the Schengen territory. A transit visa may only be issued if the alien proves that he or she is permitted to enter the next country of destination after his or her stay in Schengen territory. A transit visa may be issued for single or double transit and, exceptionally, multiple transits.

Note: Keep in mind and pay special attention to your travel plans. If your travel plans include a transit through the Schengen territory and / or a country (not in the Schengen territory) you require a visa you should take the necessary arrangements to get a transit visa.

Short-term visa

This visa entitles an alien to enter and stay in the territory for tourist, business and personal or any other visits or similar purposes of entry into the territory. A short-term visa may be issued for single, double or multiple entries into the country where neither a single uninterrupted stay nor the collective duration of a number of successive stays may exceed 90 days within a period of six months, starting from the day of first entry.

Visa fees

The visa fee for the type of visas mentioned above is EUR 35. Diplomatic missions and consular posts of the Republic of Slovenia may also accept the fee in the counter-value of other convertible currencies used locally.

The fee is independent of visa validity and is applicable to the named visa types; there is no refund under any circumstances. The amount of the fee is harmonized with the EU Council decision of 13 June 2003 and  EU Council decision 2006/440/ES and is the same at all diplomatic missions and consular posts of EU Member States abroad. The fee is collected with the visa application, and the diplomatic mission or consular post that accepted the application is obliged to deliver a confirmation of payment.
